Channa Horwitz

Born 1932 in Los Angeles, US
Died 2013 in Santa Monica, US

Channa Horwitz' work is composed of basic structures which only reveal their full complexity in execution. The point of departure is always a variation of the numbers 1 through 8, and in her later work, the attribution of a particular colour value to each number. Many of these compositions can be read as instructions for sequences of movements or interpreted musically. Acclaimed not only for her drawing, Horwitz also received praise for her performative works begun in the 1970s. She participated in the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013 and the Taipei Biennale 2012.
