Michael Dreyer
Born 1953 in Coburg, DE
Lives and works in Stuttgart, DE
The artistic practice and interests of Michael Dreyer are widely varied. He is as much a visual artist, author, musician, graphic artist and designer, as he is director and project-initiator. He consistently questions common assumptions, clichés and romantic ideas held about the vocation of the artist, his way of life, and specific locales such as the studio. The engagement with such assumptions run through Dreyer's oeuvre like a red thread, being ironically questioned and investigated time and again. He teaches at the Merz Akademie and is founder and general director of the W.O.Scheibemuseum, located in his own backyard.
